TEXAS LEGISLATURE
Education laws are made at the State level. Click here to go to the State Education Code. State Senators and Representatives make laws regarding education. Contact your TX Senator and Representative find your representatives here. The Legislature meets every odd year and is in session From January through June for 140 days. The Governor may call a special session anytime after the regular session at his discretion. Private Schools and Homeschools are not regulated by the State of Texas other than to require a course in good citizenship. Many private and homeschools schools belong to associations. Parents regulate private and home schools.
STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION
The Commissioner of Education and the 15 elected members
of the State Board of Education (SBOE) oversee the public education system of
Texas in accordance with the Texas Education Code--laws created by the State Senators and Representatives.
SBOE meetings are open to the public, and you are encouraged to listen online

TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
